Matthew 5 and The Beatitudes

Matthew 5 and The Beatitudes

(A few of my thoughts before the actual study)

This is my personal Bible study on the Beatitudes, in chapter five in Matthew. Mu intention is to brake it down, taking it slow so that can go to the original language spoken for it's definition. I've been told and also read that the Jewish, Hebrew Greek languages are so different in so many ways, for example: it is a picturesque language, and there are just some words, that cannot be translated... therefore I feel the need to go to several translations as well to make it perfectly clear to the best of my ability, helping to make the translation, or transliteration of some verses and words in the Bible, so clear that by His Holy Spirit, will be able to find what it is that I am looking for and also, to gain revelation from reading as I go along... and learning to hear HIS still small VOICE from HIS WORD, which is LOVE.

I believe this is so very important which, in fact, this is my ultimate goal. To understand the WORD of GOD the way the writer, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote it, through men, chosen by God, Himself... giving me the Wisdom, Guidance, Knowledge, Understanding, and Discernment, that I need to get through my life on a daily basis.

Taking all this into consideration, if you would just bear with me as I go through my study this way, hoping then, to also be able to share it with others... and make it mine, planted as a seed, rooted deeply, so that I will be able to walk by faith and not by sight; so that I will be able to live being led only, by HIS HOLY SPIRT, and not by my flesh.

God is Love, I want to portray that in my life every day, so that when someone looks at me, they don't see Susie, they see a woman of GOD transformed by the renewing of her mind, studying the WORD, showing herself/myself, a workman, rightly dividing the WORD OF TRUTH.

It is so important for me personally, I take this very seriously, my studies, and my walk with Christ as a new creation in Him... without His righteousness, I am nothing, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, and intend to work out my own salvation, growing in faith, praying for hope, and speaking words that only encourage and lift up the hearers, leading people to Christ, so that all would see ONLY HIS LOVE In me, and not me... but the Susie Parent, that is a sinner, just forgiven by HIS UNMERRITED GRACE and FAVOR. Glory to God, and Thank you, Jesus that I am able, to daily go now, to the Throne of Grace and repent, turn from my sins, and forgive other, loving them along the journey He has chosen for me, here on this earth.
We are here today and gone tomorrow as it is written, like a blade of grass.

He is coming again, and said will He find any faith when He returns? I want to say YES, Lord... Here I am, send me.

I have a great desire for souls, evangelism and intercession. I believe the WORD for what it is and says. I thank God for His Word and Grace and believe that no matter what we are living, or going through, (because everyone is going through something, some worse than others) we have Joy unspeakable and Peace that passes all human understanding. Which, if we Obey, Him, and cleave to Him and His Word, Statutes, that He will protect us.

Lastly, before I actually get started in this study, another reason I feel so strongly about studying the WORD for myself, and is written that the enemy can come on as an angel of light, and the WORD of GOD if not praying while you are reading making it your worship, I would even to as far to say, believing that with all of my being. The demons believe and tremble, as it is written, therefore, we must not only believe, but as it is translated/defined in the Greek ~ trust, believe, rely on and put into action in our lives. His WORD, being led by HIS HOLY SPIRIT and not our flesh, so that we can have the gifts, benefits, and blessings that are HIS promises for all who would come and answer HIS call... Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. He loves us/you, so much that HE (John 3:16) died for us so that we could live, taking on our sin, the fore becoming our righteousness... so that we would some day, at our appointed time, meet Him and rule and reign with Him in eternal life.

I don't know about you, but that excites me, and I love every thing in this book... I have been reading and studying now for over 35 years, and I am still finding new things HE is teaching me in HIS WORD.
His Word is LIFE. It's alive and real and can touch your life and give you hope, because as it is also written in Proverbs, hope deferred makes the heart sick. God doesn't want us live in despair, or hopelessness. He wants us to be happy, and have a good life. He created us, He knows what is good and bad for us, and the handbook for this life of ours, is in fact, The One and Only Bible... 66 books, written by and inspired by the Holy Spirit, for our guidance. When He left us to sit at the right hand of the Father of Mercies, He sent to us The Comforter to lead us into all truth... We are not left orphans... that is where, prayer and the Bible come in and why it is so important to read, study, and listen to when preached. (testing every spirit, because not all are from Him) even those things He teaches us, from the simplest to the most difficult things we could possibly be living, there is an answer for us, yes, everyone of us, in HIS WORD. Trust Him, He loves you and wants to share His Love with you and your family..

We can have HIS Joy Unspeakable and understand and be warned of all things, as it is also written, all we have to do is make ourselves available to him; He is waiting at the door of every heart waiting to be invited into your hearts... Nothing is by compulsion, everything by Grace... He is a Gentleman, Meek, yet like a Lion of Judah... roaring, speaking out the Truth for all who will listen, obey and come into the fold, which HE will accept (you) as one of HIS own, immediately, and throw all your past into the sea of forgetfulness as though they had never existed, completely blotted out... all you have to do is forgive yourself and follow HIM.

I hope you take this free gift for yourself, I know HE wants you to and all the Angels rejoice in heaven at the repentance and salvation of every soul here on earth. Rejoice, again I say rejoice... today is the day of salvation, don't let it pass you by... Today is the day the LORD has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

This day, I have chosen life; we have a choice, life and death, I choose life... It's written, death and life are held in the power of the tongue. James talks about the tongue and how dangerous such a small thing is, and our words, all throughout the Bible are also so important. No unwholesome word should come out of our mouths... does salt and fresh water come from the same fountain, or two different fruits from one tree? no... He does not want us to be lukewarm, but hot or cold.

Ultimately, for myself I want to continue learning with HIS Help, and apply it to my life today and everyday... Growing in Him, God, The Father, In The Name of Jesus of Nazareth. I believe and have such a strong desire, zeal and love for the WORD of GOD, that I want to dig deep, to find what The Holy Spirit has for me daily in these studies. I want to hear His Still Small Voice, be obedient to the direction I go and how far in depth I do for each day.
So, all that being said, I pray you will not only take time for yourselves to check these things out but enjoy what I have shared, and then share it with others, because that is what my heart is in this for, reaching out for others to touch them with the Love of God... Thank you, for stopping by...
Blessings,

It Seems to me, when I read this word seeing I immediately, consider the depth of Jesus' compassion and and discernment of what He was preparing to and had previously prepared to do. He often spend all night praying before going out to preach to the multitudes. Intercession comes to mind.

Think about how interesting this one word is, and how quickly and easily it is to overlook so many simple words that actually add so much meaning tos this verse and the importance of it, when putting it all together after reading it in context with the complete chapter and thought. One other thing I like about studying with the www.Blueletterbible.org is when you use the KJV and check the box for the Strongs #'s at the top... underneath the actual transliteration and definitions, you will find other verses being used throughout the Bible with that same word... I enjoy reading through those too, to enhance my understanding to the study. (Being taught, and found to be true some time ago, the Bible actually interprets itself at some point somewhere else.)
You see where the writer is coming from and learn so much more and after taking time to meditate, or even before meditation of a verse, words, or chapters for that matter, God can, has and will speak directly to you in the midst of a study if you are listening, and have trained your ear to hear.
Strongs G304 anabainō ἀναβαίνω
1) ascend
a) to go up
b) to rise, mount, be borne up, spring up

This particular Word UP, for some reason reminds me of the verse where it talks about putting your light on top of the lampstand for all to see. Jesus, just did this naturally, all the time; HE made himself, when he wanted to be seen that is, high up, for all to see HIS LIGHT, the LIGHT OF THE WORLD... come to set us free from darkness... as written in the Gospel of John, the Jesus was the Light and came into the world, the WORD became flesh and dwelt among us, and the darkness could not comprehend it. (Very thought provoking for me)

The interest I have in Numbers in the Scriptures, rises up within me to investigate further many times during my studies. And so, I will continue here with just one more note on the sharing of the number (#) 48, because of there being simply, 48 verses in this chapter. (knowing also, that the numbers ~ Food for thought... I have a book with the study of numbers, but there are so many resources available to us online. Often times, you will be shown to add certain numbers together to get different combinations of meanings... I find it very interesting. Just from Memory, I know the Number 40 has so much significance in the Bible and put together with the number 8, the number of new beginnings, the Eight day is the Millennium... a day with the LORD is like a thousand years to us... for example...

Here is one of them: Beloved Heart Musings and Journal

The Significance of the number 40 in the Bible…

The number 40 holds particular significance in the Bible and refers to a precise number, not just a long period of time. There are at least ten instances in the Old Testament and New Testament where 40 occurs, either in years or days, e.g. it rained for 40 days and 40 nights, Moses was on the mountain 40 days and 40 nights, the Israelites wandered 40 years, Jesus fasted in the wilderness for 40 days and was seen on the earth for 40 days after His crucifixion.
A 40-something time period, whether days, months, or years is ALWAYS a period of testing, trial, probation, or chastisement (but not judgment) and ends with a period of restoration, revival or renewal.
Thankfully, God is consistent, so the meaning of a number in Genesis remains the same all the way to the book of Revelation. Sometimes the spiritual significance is not revealed directly, but in the case of “40″ and its many examples throughout the Bible, we can be certain of its importance and significance.

The Number Forty
The number forty has long been universally recognized as an important number, both on account of the frequency of its occurrence, and the uniformity of its association with a period of probation, trial, and chastisement—(not judgment, like the number 9, which stands in connection with the punishment of enemies, but the chastisement of sons, and of a covenant people). It is the product of 5 and 8, and points to the action of grace (5), leading to and ending in reviva and renewal (8). This is certainly the case where Forty relates to a period of evident probation. But where it relates to enlarged dominion, or to renewed or extended rule, then it does so in virtue of its factors 4 and 10, and in harmony with their signification.
There are 15 such periods which appear on the surface of the Scriptures, and which may be thus classified:—
Forty Years of Probation by Trial
Forty Years of Probation by Prosperity in Deliverance and Rest
  • under Othniel, Judges 3:11,
  • under Barak, Judges 5:31,
  • under Gideon, Judges 8:28.
Forty Years of Probation by Prosperity in Enlarged Dominion
  • under David, 2Samuel 5:4,
  • under Solomon, 1 Kings 11:42,
  • under Jeroboam II. See 2 Kings 12:17,18, 13:3,5,7,22,25, 14:12-14,23,28,
  • under Jehoash, 2 Kings 12:1,
  • under Joash, 2Chronicles 24:1.
Forty Years of Probation by Humiliation and Servitude
  • Israel under the Philistines, Judges 13:1.
  • Israel in the time of Eli, 1Samuel 4:18.
  • Israel under Saul, Acts 13:21.
Forty Years of Probation by Waiting
  • Moses in Egypt, Acts 7:23.
  • Moses in Midian, Acts 7:30
Forty Days
There are eight of such great periods on the surface of the Bible:
  • Forty days Moses was in the mount, Exodus 24:18; and to receive the Law, Exodus 24:18.
  • Forty days Moses was in the mount after the sin of the Golden Calf, Deuteronomy 9:18,25.
  • Forty days of the spies, issuing in the penal sentence of the 40 years, Numbers 13:26, 14:34.
  • Forty days of Elijah in Horeb, 1 Kings 19:8.
  • Forty days of Jonah and Nineveh, Jonah 3:4.
  • Forty days Ezekiel lay on his right side to symbolize the 40 years of Judah’s transgression.*
  • Forty days Jesus was seen of His disciples, speaking of things pertaining to God’s kingdom, Acts 1:2.
* Thus 40 becomes a number closely connected with Judah, as 390 (Ezekiel 4:5) is the number of separated Israel. The significance of this will be seen (on note on number 8), for 40 is a multiple of 8, and 390 is a multiple of 13. It may also be noted that 65 (5×13) is the number of Ephraim, while 70 is specially connected with Jerusalem.

The Number 8

The Biblical Meaning of the Number 8

In Hebrew the number eight is hnm# (Sh'moneh), from the root Nm# (Shah'meyn),
"to make fat," "cover with fat," "to super-abound." As a participle it means "one who
abounds in strength," etc. As a noun it is "superabundant fertility," "oil," etc. So that as a
numeral it is the superabundant number. As seven was so called because the seventh day
was the day of completion and rest, so eight, as the eighth day, was over and above this
perfect completion, and was indeed the first of a new series, as well as being the eighth.
We consider the connection between 8 and 7 in another section.
It is 7 plus 1. Hence it is the number specially associated with Resurrection and
Regeneration, and the beginning of a new era or order.
When the whole earth was covered with the flood, it was Noah "the eighth person"
(2 Peter 2:5) who stepped out on to a new earth to commence a new order of things.
"Eight souls" (1 Peter 3:20) passed through it with him to the new or regenerated world.
Hence, too, circumcision was to be performed on the eighth day (Genesis 17:12),
because it was the foreshadowing of the true circumcision of the heart, that which was
to be "made without hands," even "the putting off of the body of the sins of the
flesh by the circumcision of Christ" (Colossians 2:11). This is connected with the new creation.
The firstborn was to be given to God on the eighth day (Exodus 22:29-30).

Who HAS been resurrected from the DEAD?

The resurrection of the dead is the great truth which is signified by the number 8.
The Bible contains the record of eight individuals (with a likely ninth one) who have been
brought back to life.
This list does not include the resurrection of Jesus or the resurrection back to a physical
life of many people that happened just after Jesus died:
"And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the
earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves AFTER His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many." (Matthew 27:50-53, NKJV)
The eight (and likely nine) individual resurrections are:
  1. Elijah raises the son of a woman. (1Kings 17:8-9, 17-23)
  2. Elisha raises the son of a Shunammite woman. (2Kings 4:16-20, 32-36)
  3. God uses the bones of Elisha to raise a man back to life. (2Kings 13:20-21)
  4. Jesus resurrects the only son of a woman from Nain. (Luke 7:11-15)
  5. Jesus raises from the dead the daughter of Jarius, who is a ruler in the synagogue.
     (Luke 8:41-42, 49-55)
  6. Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead. (John 11:11-14, 17, 32-35, 38-39, 41-44)
  7. In Joppa Peter resurrects a generous woman named Tabitha. (Acts 9:36-41)
  8. The apostle Paul raises from the dead a young man named Eutychus who fell from
a window listening to him speak. (Acts 20:7-12)
  9. The apostle Paul himself was resurrected from the dead after (likely) being stoned to
     death:
"Then Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there; and having persuaded the multitudes, THEY STONED PAUL and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead. However, when the disciples gathered around him, he rose up and went into the city. And the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe." (Acts 14:19-20, NKJV)

Eight days of the greatest Feast

The Feast of Tabernacles lasted eight days, with a special reference to the Incarnation
 (John 1:14).

Jesus' transfiguration took place on the eighth day

The transfiguration also took place on the eighth day (inclusive reckoning) after the first announcement of Christ's "sufferings," and it was the showing forth of the "glory"
which should follow at His coming again.

Eight is the first Cubic number

Eight is the first cubic number, the cube of two, 2 x 2 x 2. We have seen that three is
the symbol of the first plane figure, and that four is the first square. So here, in the first
cube, we see something of transcendent perfection indicated, something, the length and
breadth and height of which are equal. This significance of the cube is seen in the fact
that the "Holy of Holies," both in the Tabernacle and in the Temple, were cubes. In the
Tabernacle it was a cube of 10 cubits. In the Temple it was a cube of 20 cubits. In
Revelation 20 the New Jerusalem is to be a cube of 12,000 furlongs. Dr. Milo Mahan
is inclined to believe that the Ark of Noah, too, had a kind of sacred Shechinah in "the
window finished in a cubitabove"—a cube of one. If so, we have the series of cubes:

1
=
Noah's Ark
103
=
1,000 - The Tabernacle
203
=
8,000 - The Temple
12,0003

1,728,000,000,000, the New Jerusalem

What are the Eight Songs NOT in the book of Psalms?

Eight songs in the Old Testament outside of the Psalms:
  1. Redemption, Exodus 15.

     32.
  4. Victory over oppression, Judges 5.
  5. David, God's elect, delivered from all his foes, 2 Samuel 22.
  6. The Song of Songs.
  7. The song of the well-beloved touching Israel, God's vineyard, Isaiah 5.
  8. This (the eighth) waits to be sung when the resurrection occurs (Isaiah 26), for it
does not come till after "death is swallowed up in victory,"

What were the eight miracles of Elijah?

The miracles of Elijah were eight in number, marking the Divine character of his mission:
  1. The shutting up of heaven, 1 Kings 17:1; James 5:17; Luke 4:25.

  6. Causing fire to come down from heaven, 2 Kings 1:10.
  7. The same, verse 12.
  8. Dividing the Jordan, 2 Kings 2:8.

What miracles did Elisha perform?

The miracles of Elisha were double in number, viz. Sixteen, for his request was, "Let a
double portion of thy spirit be upon me," 2 Kings 2:9:
  1. Dividing the Jordan, 2 Kings 2:14.
  2. Healing the waters, verse 21.
  3. Cursing the young men,* verse 24.
  4. Procuring water for the three kings, 2 Kings 3:16-20.

* The word is used of Isaac, aged 28; Joseph when 39; Rehoboam when 40; Shadrach and his companions in Babylon.
The use and significance of the number eight in Scripture is seen to recur in marvelous
exactitude. It may indeed be said that

Why is Eight the number of Jesus?

Eight is the number of Jesus, whose name in Greek is IHSOUS:

Σ

Υ

It is the number stamped upon the Old Testament, the numbers of its books in all the
 manuscripts being 24 (3x8).
In the book which relates to His great Apocalypse or Revelation, there are in the
introduction which sets forth the glory of the Lord, to be revealed in the day of the
Lord, eight references to the Old Testament on which the claims of His Lordship are
based.

What are the Eight references to the Old Testament in Revelation 1?

It will be noted, moreover, that these are not given at haphazard. Our attention is called
to their importance by the order in which they are given. They are arranged in the form
of an epanodos, the first being from the same book as the eighth, the second corresponding
in the same way to the seventh, the third to the sixth, and the fourth to the fifth. Thus the
Divine seal of superabundant perfection is there set on the Scriptures which declare the
 Lordship of Jesus:
A. Revelation 1:5, Isaiah 55:4.
B. Revelation 1:7, Daniel 7:13.
C.Revelation1:7, Zechariah 12:10.
D. Revelation 1:8, Isaiah 41:4, 44:6, 48:12.
D. Revelation 1:11, Isaiah 41:4, 44:6; 48:12.
C. Revelation 1:12, Zechariah 4:2.
B. Revelation 1:13-15, Daniel 7:9, 13, 22, 10:5, 6.
A. Revelation 1:16, Isaiah 49:2.

How is the number 8 represented in other names for Jesus?

Other names for Jesus are also marked by Gematria (substituting numbers for letters)
and stamped with the number eight as a factor:
  • CristoV, Christ, 1480 (8x185).
  • KurioV, Lord, 800 (8x100).
  • KurioV hmwn, Our Lord, 1768 (8x221).
  • Swthr, savior, 1408 (82x 32).
  • 'Emmanouhl, Emmanuel, 25600, (83x50).
  • Messias, Messiah, 656 (8x82).
  • UioV, Son, 880 (8x110).
We ought also to note that the other factors, beside the prevailing eight, are full of
 significance.
All this speaks to us, if we have "ears to hear," that "God hath glorified His Son Jesus"
(Acts 3:13), and "hath made that same Jesus . . . both Lord and Christ" (Acts 2:36).

Additional commentary on the Biblical Meaning of 8 *

The number 8, which comes after the number (7) which signifies completeness, symbolizes
a new beginning, or a new order of things, a new creation, a new birth, and the resurrection
 to eternal life.
A musical scale has 7 notes, with the 8th note beginning a new scale an octave from the
first note. Eight people were carried in the ark for a new beginning after the flood. Four
is the number of the first creation, and 8 (4 + 4) pictures the new creation after the flood.
David, the 8th son of Jesse, was the new king to replace Saul.
Christ was selected as the Passover Lamb on the 10th day of the first month, a weekly
Sabbath (John 12: 28-29). He was crucified on the 14th day (7 + 7, or double
completeness) which was also the 4th day of the week. He was in the tomb exactly 3
days and 3 nights. He was resurrected toward the end of the next weekly Sabbath, the
17th (the number of victory). The 17th was also the 8th day when counted inclusively
from the 10th day, the day of His selection. Thus, the confluence of these numbers shows
Jesus’ perfect sacrifice and His total victory over death.
Boys were to be circumcised on the 8th day. Eight symbolizes circumcision of the heart
through Christ and the receiving of the Holy Spirit (Romans 2:28-29, Colossians 2:11-13).
Those in Christ are becoming a new creation (8), with godly character being created by
 the power of God’s Spirit (2Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:10; 4:23-24).
After the 7 weeks of the spring harvest, the next day — the 50th day — is Pentecost
 (7 x 7 + 1 = 50). This day is also the "8th day of the 7th week." As such, this 8th/50th
day pictures the first resurrection, the day Christians are "born again" from flesh to spirit (1Corinthians 15:20-23, 35-55; John 3:3-12; Revelation 14:14-16, 20:4-6).
After the 7 days of the Feast of Tabernacles, there is an 8th day — the Last Great Day.
There were 8 writers of the New Testament, who wrote of Jesus’ life, death and
 resurrection.
The Scriptures were written by 40 different individuals; 40 is 5 (grace) times 8 (a new
beginning). By the grace of God mankind has the opportunity for a new beginning —
as expounded through the Word of God.
